Race Report

Under threatening skies as we left home for the Gold Coast race early on Sunday morning, we all thought we would be in for a wet one to finish off the season. The gold Coast however turned on a great day for us all, as conditions were almost perfect. There was a bit of a southerly blowing on the bike leg, however that didn’t seem to slow the Sharkies down too much. There were 24 Sharks representing the club on Sunday, and all finished off the season with some great results.

Well done to our serial place getters, James, Alexandria, Paul, Karen and Monique. A very special well done to Margot who has just got better in every race this season, finishing off with a first place, and to Joanne and Katie excellent efforts in grabbing second place.

Gatorade Race 6 - Raby Bay - 28/2/2010

February has been a big month for racing by the club, and to close out the month there were some fantastic performances by our club members on Sunday. Once again the Sharks were well represented with around 40 competing. A big well done to our division winners, Alex Wevers and Monique Wevers, and to our place getters Amelia Smith, Luke Preston, Karen Short,  James Copperthwaite, Joanne Webb, Jessie Slade, Anne Corrigall, Margot de Gannes and Bethany Smith. A special mention needs to go out to Blake Andrews who completed his first full distance tri on Sunday. It was hard to get a post race interview with him back at the club tent afterwards as I think he was getting over that second run leg – well done Blake. (Note also – Simon Lane crossed the line in 4th place however his results have not shown up in the official timing results, unsure why, however great race Simon)

TQ State Sprint Championships – 21/2/2010

The TQ State Sprint Championship was held on 21 February at Redcliffe (a day after the completion of the Schools Championship). Whilst the Sharks numbers were down, the quality certainly wasn’t, as all placed in the top 6 for their age group, and 3 Sharks won their division and were awarded State Sprint Champion medals. A big well done to Laura Cahill, Alexandria Wevers and Monique Wevers. Well done to our medal winners John Wevers, Karen Short and Margot De Gannes. Excellent efforts all round guys.

Gatorade Race 3 – Raby Bay - 13/12/2009

Race 3 of the USM series saw a record turnout from the clubs members. We had 50 members racing on Sunday, a fantastic effort to all, including our loyal band of supporters that come along to every race to cheer us on.
I was really proud of how the club performed on Sunday, not only did we have record numbers, we also had some fantastic results on the day. We had 10 podium finishers and another 13 Top 10 placings. As a Club we placed 2nd in the Inaugral Club Championship. The Sharks finished the day with the most podium finishes of all clubs however were outweighed by numbers of Brisbane Tri Squad  members that competed.

Congratulations to our podium finishers:

Luke Beachamp – 3rd
James Copperthwaite – 1st
Margot DeGannes – 2nd
Ian Graham – 3rd
David Pinto – 3rd
Luke Preston – 3rd
Amelia Smith – 2nd
Joanne Webb – 3rd
Alexandria Wevers – 1st
Team Trihards (John & Adam) – 3rd

Congratulations to 2 first timers competing for our club on Sunday – Harrison Sleigh and Anne Corrigall. Well done also to a couple of our intermediate talents Luke Beauchamp and Simon Lane, who have progressed through the junior ranks over the past few years and really showed their more senior team mates how to perform on the day. Both achieved 2nd and 3rd fastest times for the club on Sunday.

To all members and your families, have a safe and enjoyable Christmas, enjoy the Christmas cheer, because there will be plenty of training sessions in the new year to work it all off again.

The first race of the season was held at Raby Bay on Oct 18. The Sharks were magnificently represented by 41 individual athletes and two teams. This would have to be a record number – we are currently going back into the history books to check this. With such a strong Sharks field, we had a very strong showing on the leaders board with a number of podium and top 10 finishers.

10-11 Kool Kids – Boys – 1. David Pinto 2. James Copperthwaite

Gold Coast Half Ironman & Sprintman – 4/10/2009

Round three of the Australian Half Ironman Series comprised of over 1000 Half Ironman competitors and approximately 500 Sprintman competitors all with their own goals and aspirations. It was the Sharkies “local” event which saw a great turnout from the club, some sporting the new look Ironman suits. Conditions were favourable early in the day, but unfortunately in true Jacobs Well fashion, the wind kicked up as the day progressed making for more difficult riding conditions. Special mention goes to Paul Rawlins for a great performance in winning the 100+ Clydesdale category and Lynsey Smith for beating her husband. Condolences to Dan Smith for being beaten by his wife and Dave Lawson who couldn’t go any further on the run after suffering a repeatative abducted problem.

PAUL RAWLINS

It has been remiss of me not to have included the great results of one of our members throughout the season. Paul is a member of our club despite the fact that he resides on the Sunshine Coast. He competes in the Clydesdale Category and over the years has had some consistently excellent results. So here are Paul’s results retrospectively for this season.
